Herman van de Werfhorst holds a chair in Sociology at the Political and Social Sciences Department (SPS) of the European University Institute, EUI. He is on leave from the University of Amsterdam. Herman works in the field of social stratification, social mobility, and inequality, with a focus on education and institutions. He combines cross-national comparative work with national school cohort data from the Netherlands.
At the EUI, Herman is the chair of the Ethics Committee, helps run the Comparative Life Course and Inequality Centre CLIC at the SPS Department, and coordinates the interdisciplinary research cluster Inequality, Welfare, and Social Justice. (with Prof. Alexander Monge-Naranjo of the Economics department).
